Events at Dalby Forest
- The Courtyard, Dalby Forest
This two day ceramic workshop will introduce participants to the skills of throwing and hand building functional ceramic vessels inspired by Roman pottery. You will learn how to use a potters wheel and make coil pots. You be taken on a sketchbook session taking inspiration from the forest to develop into designs where you will learn ceramic surface decoration techniques. At the end of this weekend course you will have created and decorated 2 ceramic vessels which will be taken away to be dried and fired at Iona’s studio.
Pieces of work will be available to collect from Dalby Forest 4-8 weeks after the course.
Suitable for adults and accompanied teenagers over 16.
Artist Bio:
Iona grew up in Farndale (North Yorkshire) where she first became interested in clay whilst moulding and creating fairy homes in the clay bank of their pond. Iona went to Botton Village Steiner school which nurtured the arts as much as traditional academic subjects, before moving to Nawton. Iona studied 3D Design Crafts at York College before moving on to Sunderland University receiving a first in BA Glass and Ceramics. After graduating in 2020 Iona set up her home studio where she creates functional and sculptural ceramics exhibited and sold in galleries throughout the country alongside her teaching work.
