Events at Kielder Water and Forest Park - Park/meet at Mounces Viewpoint Car Park. See location map.
Come along and spend a day helping us plant Rushy Knowe, our new woodland creation site! Once complete, Rushy Knowe will provide 100 hectares of new woodland in Kielder Forest. Find out more about the scheme.
You will be helping us plant the native broadleaf areas of the site with young saplings which will also need staking and tubing to protect them from grazing animals as they grow.
What to bring
Gloves and equipment will be provided but you will need to wear comfortable clothing and bring waterproof outdoor clothing and appropriate footwear (sturdy waterproof boots or wellingtons).
Hot/cold drinks and snacks will be provided at the meeting point on arrival and at lunch but please ensure that you bring sufficient food (including lunch) and water for the day.
How to get there
From the nearby villages of Bellingham and Newcastleton follow signs to Kielder Water and Forest Park which will take you onto the C200 - the road which runs adjacent to the southern shore of Kielder Water. The car park is situated on the C200 approximately four miles south of Kielder village or three miles west of Kielder dam. Grid reference: NY65568878.
There is a short walk to the planting site from the car park. Note that the site is undulating and steep in places and may be wet/muddy underfoot.
Hand washing facilities will be provided. There are no toilet facilities on site but we will have use of toilet and other facilities at Leaplish Waterside Park – approximately a five minute walk from the site along the Lakeside Way.
