Fine views across the valley can be seen from the far end of Cowleaze which has a variety of open paths and trails for you to explore.

There's over 140 miles of walking trails in the New Forest, for details look for the maps in the car park. A popular walk from New Park is to head north and do the Lyndhurst Parish Walk - 8.5 miles long and with plenty of pubs along the way!

Broxa has a range of paths that run through the woodland. The Blue Man Walk also passes through the forest connecting Broxa with Langdale.

Fernworthy Forest has a range of forest roads and tracks that run through the woodland where you can spot some of the forest's impressive heritage features.

There is open access to a range of trails within Kings Cliff starting from the car park. Don't forget to bring your wellies, as tracks can become muddy after rain.

Walking at Whitbarrow Forest is the perfect way to get outdoors and explore some of the area’s most natural landscapes on foot.

The whole area is well-served with public footpaths, permissive paths and a host of other paths and tracks.

The wider Whitbarrow and Witherslack area is a justly popular venue for walkers, with the higher level paths affording stunning views over Morecambe Bay and south Lakeland.

Just south of the north Devon coastline, Meddon Plantation is nestled within the rolling hills of the English countryside.

Popular with local dog walkers, take a break from your everyday stresses and escape to the great outdoors at Meddon. Walk along grassy open paths, take a moment to pause and listen to the gentle swish of the trees, and see if you can spot any UFO's... Meddon Plantation is home to some speculation around UFO sightings. Why not visit to see for yourself?

The Bernwood Jubilee Way, runs through a section of the wood on its 61 mile journey within the Ancient Forest Boundary.

A waymarked butterfly trail starts from the car park and leads walkers through forest, glades and rides.

Fernworthy's position at the edge of Fernworthy Reservoir provides extensive opportunities for walking, nature spotting, and enjoying the peace of Dartmoor.

See if you can find one of the many prehistoric sites in the area including the Fernworthy Cairn Circle and Fernworthy Assycombe Stone Row.

Berwick Glades has a well surfaced public footpath that meanders through the newly planted woodland. The path is interspersed with wild-flower meadows and is dotted with benches and picnic tables. 

The public footpaths link to both Hornchurch and Berwick Woods.

Walking at Ashton Hill is the perfect way to get some fresh air and explore some of Bristol's most beautiful landscapes.

There is a circular hard surfaced trail (not waymarked) starting from the car park which is suitable for walkers and cyclists. A bench provides a resting place underneath the Giant Sequoias.

There are 3.3km of open paths for you to explore at Harold Court Woods! 

If you fancy an even longer walk, you can safely cross over to Pages Wood.

Explore the woodland on a range of gravel paths at Dawlish Waterworks. Dawlish Waterworks is part of Haldon Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), so bring binocular if you have them to spot some of the local wildlife.

Drinkwater Park is connected by a network of public paths that take you throughout the park. The Irwell Sculpture Trail also runs through the site. Find out more about the trail below.

From the main carpark, there are two waymarked walking trails with information boards about the butterflies and the conservation work in the wood. Both trails have a moderate grade, the north is 1.5miles (2.4km) long and marked by red arrows, the South is 2 miles (3.21km) long and marked by green arrows.

Eggesford Forest comprises three main woodland blocks with a variety of walking.

Heywood offers a variety of forest roads and tracks. You will pass a motte and bailey castle, remnant of a Norman fort that is now a scheduled monument. Head down the slopes towards the stream to encounter some of Eggesford's most impressive trees, including a veteran Douglas Fir planted in around 1840.

Cookworthy Forest is a great location for interesting walks, afternoon runs, and enjoying the great outdoors.

Sensory Walks

Going for a sensory walk helps you get outside, be active and connect with nature.

Salcey Forest's Sensory Walk is a gentle walk through the forest with different areas to experience all the different senses. The surface is over various flat hard surfaces on the forest floor and suitable for wheelchairs.

Silverhill Wood is home to miles of well-surfaced trails that criss-cross the woodland. 

Meander through woodland, grassland and scrubland up to the highest point in Nottinghamshire. Marvel at the rolling rural landscape and enjoy the spectacular views. On a clear day you can even see Lincoln Cathedral.

Located on the outskirts of Bristol, escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre with a visit to Wraxall Piece. 

Enjoy a pleasant woodland stroll or leisurely dog walk in this peaceful woodland. 

 

 

Walk in the forest

Tuetoes, Laughton Forest supports a wide range of habitats, rare plants, animals and birds, making it a great place to visit if you want an interesting walk!

This is the longest of three walks which take you round this fascinating woodland.

Whitwell is rich in flora and fauna and there's something to see all year round.

Whinlatter Forest's Sensory Walk is predominately on forest roads, which are compacted, gravel or hard stone surface which is occasionally rough and uneven. The surface is over various flat hard surfaces and suitable for wheelchairs.

Forestry England have partnered up with Nordic Walking UK to bring you Nordic Walking and WALX activities in the Nations forests!

Pull on your boots and pick up your poles as you enjoy the peace and beauty of the ancient woodland trails.

Look out for Nordic Adventure WALX happening in Salcey Forest as well as regular Wellness WALX for those new to exercise, recovering from injury or with underlying health conditions.

The Orange Walk can be started from St Helens Picnic Site or from Santon Downham and offers you a variety of habitats and many opportunities for wildlife watching.

The walk passes through the Little Ouse Valley Forest Nature Reserve, crosses the river and takes you through the edge of Santon Downham village.

Sensory Walks

Going for a sensory walk helps you get outside, be active and connect with nature.

The sensory walks at Wyre Forest are designed with the intention of bringing users closer to nature. They do not include any man-made points of interest, but instead use completely natural features that can be seen, touched, smelled and heard.

Choose from two routes:

Panoramic view from Mamhead towards the Exe Estuary

Just five minutes from both the A38 and A380, Mamhead is a perfect sanctuary for a dog walk, family stroll, or just to enjoy some peace. 

Make up your own route or choose from two waymarked walks to be rewarded with breathtaking views over the Exe estuary and along to the Jurassic Coast.

Folkes Lane Woodland has an excellent network of paths, providing you with a range of route options around the site. There are regular benches alongside the paths providing opportunities to rest and take in the stunning scenery.

Use a lead if they don’t always return when called. Prevent your dog from going up to (or chasing) people or animals.

Rogate Woods has a range of paths that run through the woodland.

Pages Wood offers 6.5km of walking paths for you to explore! This valley of green space provides excellent views as well as lots of important and varied habitats for wildlife.

If you fancy an even longer walk, you can safely cross over to Harold Court Woods to the north west, and Tylers Common and Tylers Wood to the north east.

You can also connect to the London Loop, allowing you to roam even further afield if you want a longer walk.
