The Champion Bowland Tramper is now located at Gisburn Forest Hub and is available to hire from the cafe.  There is a five mile easy access trail from the cafe with a link route to Stocks Reservoir to enjoy the wonderful scenery along the Birch Hills Trail.  A perfect opportunity for less mobile people to enjoy the beauty of the forest.  The Tramper is provided by Forest of Bowland AONB.

Visitors with permanent or temporary limited mobility can hire one of two ‘Walking with Wheels’  trampers through the Countryside Mobility Scheme.

Trampers are off-road mobility scooters, which are easy to use and able to tackle a range of surfaces and gradients come rain or shine. You do not have to be registered disabled to hire a Tramper.

We are delighted that we now have an all-terrain mobility scooter (Tramper) available to hire.

We currently have one waymarked route approved for the Tramper to use. This is a stunning 5 mile trail exploring some of the quieter areas of the western side of the forest around Wood Moss tarn. We will have a shorter, gentler route available later in the year as soon as some trail improvement works are completed.

Walking trails and routes

This circular route is suitable for bicycles and Trampers, passing some of Bellever's archaeological features.

The trail joins the Lych Way for a short distance before returning to the car park.

For a shorter, easygoing walk to a beautiful picnic spot, try the Easy Access trail.

Birch Hills walk, Gisburn

An easy path through mixed woodland with views over Stocks Reservoir. On this trail you will pass the old vicarage garden picnic area and two wildlife hides. This trail has also been adapted to be tramper friendly.

We’ve partnered with Countryside Mobility (a charity initiative, operated by Living Options) to offer all-terrain mobility scooters (“Trampers”) for hire. Trampers are available to any visitors aged 14+ with limited mobility. You do not have to be registered disabled to hire a Tramper.

You can explore both the National Pinetum and Forest with the tramper. To avoid disappointment please book at least 2 weeks ahead by calling the visitor centre.

Follow the gentle Lady Vale Walk to the Lady Vale Bridge then strike out uphill to reach the Scots Pine Picnic Area.

Take in the views before rejoining the Lady Vale Walk to return to the car park.

This trail is suitable for our off-road mobility vehicle. Find out more about how to hire our Tramper.

A short, surfaced path leads from the car park to the East Dart riverbank, a perfect spot for scenic picnicking.

For a longer Tramper-friendly route, try the Cycle and Tramper trail.

This trail provides the perfect opportunity to explore the wide variety of forest environments at Haldon.

Experience some of the wildlife living here by visiting the popular bird of prey viewpoint - don't forget your binoculars!

The trail is fully surfaced but be prepared for a few steep ascents and descents. This trail is suitable for our Trampers.

Walking trails and routes

Follow a pleasant stream then gradually climb up the slopes past some of the oldest conifer trees in the woods. Look out for the viewpoint halfway round where you can look out along the valley of Cardinham Water towards its source on Bodmin Moor. It's a perfect spot to watch the foliage change during the seasons.

This trail contains some moderate slopes. The Callywith Wood Walk is suitable for our Tramper.

Enjoy a tasty treat in the forest at one of our beautiful picnic areas, just bring along good food and company! The main picnic area is a short walk from the car park, where there are several picnic benches. The picnic area can be reached with our Tramper.

Haldon Forest Park's most popular trail is ideal for walkers, beginner cyclists of all ages, children's balance bikes, and novice runners. The surfaced trail has regular resting points, and is suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs, and mobility vehicles. Visitors with limited mobility can hire one of our three off-road mobility Trampers.

Join the friendly Haldon Rangers for a stroll through the woods every Monday at 10:00am.

We are a small, welcoming group who walk slowly and enjoy the views and pit stops on the benches. Our weekly social walk is a perfect way to boost your physical and mental wellbeing in a low-pressure setting. Gently raise your heart rate as we walk for around 90 minutes, with the distance and difficulty tailored to you.

Lynford Arboretum's Easy Access Trail has seating areas at regular intervals along its path so you can stop, enjoy the view and the peaceful forest.

Wyre Forest is the largest woodland National Nature Reserve in the country and can be found to the west of Birmingham.

Explore the arboretum to find the unusual Whitty Pear and don't forget to refuel in our on-site cafe. Our Go Ape course will keep the kids (and adults!) entertained and we've even got a dog wash on-site to keep your pooch pampered.

Is a mobility scooter right for you? 

Mobility scooters are easy to use, though do require a level of strength and the ability to be able to be driven without assistance. You will be given instructions on how to use the scooter on arrival.

This trail is home to our family activity trail which changes annually. The trail starts near to the cafe and children's play area. Follow the stone surfaced path, through mixed woodland, past our forest pond and sculptures.

There are plenty of benches to relax along the way. It’s relatively flat and suitable for mobility scooters and pushchairs, however there is a steeper uphill section near the end.

Many of the nation's forests offer the hire of mobility scooters, enabling visitors with limited mobility to enjoy a day out in the forest.

Our longest walking trail takes you downhill to our butterfly habitat area where we work alongside Butterfly Conservation to provide the ideal conditions for many butterfly species.

Over 30 species have been recorded in our butterfly area, including one of Britain's rarest butterflies, the Pearl-bordered fritillary.

A fun family map reading challenge

Head off the beaten track with our fun, navigational challenge at Haldon Forest. Use a Gruffalo-themed orienteering map to find twelve markers hidden in the deep, dark wood.

If you're feeling competitive, choose to run, walk (or skip!) the course against the clock. Before you begin the trail, pick up a Gruffalo orienteering leaflet with a certificate and map for just £1.50.

Cardinham Woods' most popular route is the streamside Lady Vale walk. The track follows the river upstream to Lady Vale Bridge, which takes its name from The Chapel of Our Lady that stood beside the river during the 12th century. Enjoy dappled shade and the sound of rippling water. There are plenty of dog dip spots along the stream.
