Playtime trail leaflet
“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing” - George Bernard Shaw
Let’s play!
Cast away your worries and give yourself permission to play this summer at Westonbirt.
Follow the trail and find a playful stop which peaks your interest… not all play is the same: some stops are active, some are about imagination, some invite you to stop, focus and think. Playing isn’t just for kids. It’s been proven to be an important source of relaxation, a way to fuel your imagination, help you problem solve,
boost creativity, improve relationships, keep you young, energetic and ultimately promote your health and wellbeing.
Natural playmates
If you were lucky enough to grow up near trees, cast your mind back to childhood: remember when they were our playmates, safe ‘bases’, climbing frames and characters in our playtime stories? They also provided us with leaves, branches and twigs for countless hours of fun.
Feeling better in nature
Spending time in nature has been proven to lower blood pressure, anxiety levels and boost our immune systems. Research also shows that the closer we are to nature, the more connected we feel, the happier we are, and therefore the more worthwhile life seems.
So what better way to spend a day than playing in nature?!
Follow the trail in Silk Wood to find out more.
