Job role: Marketing officer

At Forestry England, a marketing officer's role involves working with colleagues from across the whole organisation. This role is varied and can cover aspects such as managing social media channels, communicating with the press, dealing with customer enquiries and creating print content.

The main goals of the role is to help raise awareness of Forestry England's brand and increase engagement. 

What it takes 

A marketing officer has excellent written and oral communication skills. The role is varied and includes: 

  • creating inspiring and engaging content that is shared on social media channels and the website.  

  • writing blogs, newsletters and articles to promote forestry and campaigns. 

  • compiling marketing strategies and measuring impact to inform future initiatives and tactics.  

  • scoping and trialling new ways of reaching different audiences. 

Skills and qualifications

We recommend that you gain experience and certificates where you can to demonstrate your communications skills. This may include volunteering to gain practical knowledge, online courses or completing a relevant college course or apprenticeship.

College 

You could take a course to help you get into trainee marketing roles. These include: 

  • Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Marketing. 

  • Level 3 Certificate in Digital Marketing and Analytics. 

  • T Level in Digital Production, Design and Development. 

University 

Marketing and digital marketing roles are open to graduates of all subjects. You could choose a specialist foundation degree, higher national diploma or degree in subjects like: 

  • communications. 

  • digital marketing. 

  • advertising. 

  • business and management 

Developing your own online presence or 'brand' can be useful to raise your profile with potential employers. You can do this by creating a blog, setting up your own website and networking with marketing influencers or high profile companies through social media channels. 

Salary 

Starting from £25,000. 

Typical hours: 

On average up to 37 hours per week.
