School visits to High Lodge
Uncover the secrets of High Lodge with your class
Located in the heart of Thetford Forest, High Lodge offers fantastic learning opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Located on the border of Norfolk and Suffolk, High Lodge is within an hour's drive of Cambridge, Norwich and Ipswich.
A classroom with no walls
The living, breathing forest is a versatile learning space, with room to think and space to explore.
Plan your perfect visit by choosing from the range of self-led and guided activities below. Mix and match based on your preferences or get in touch and we can help organise your day.
Go on a sensory adventure or spot wildlife and different habitats with younger children. Older children can see how ecosystems work, undertake field studies or explore the science behind the tree lifecycle.
Learning in a forest is also a practical way to immerse your class in a range of subjects. Spark students' imagination by delivering a lesson on any topic, using the setting as inspiration.
Discover sustainable forest management in action
We grow, shape and care for forests, managing landscapes for people, wildlife and timber production.
At High Lodge, you'll see what sustainable forest management is, and why it's so important, through hands-on activities.
Booking your visit
All groups must be booked in advance so that we can help you make the most of your trip.
Please contact the local learning team by emailing eafd.education@forestryengland.uk at least two weeks before you plan to visit, and they'll get back to you with everything you need to do.
We encourage self-led group leaders to arrange a pre-visit to assist in their risk assessment writing and to gather any other useful information. A meeting with a Ranger to discuss options can be booked in advance if required. All pre-visits are free of charge.
