Horse riding at Bramshill Plantation

From the start of May 2025, the way we process permits for some of our woodlands is changing. Horse riders wishing to ride across the permissive route network through Bramshill, Warren Heath and Heath Warren forest will need a permit.

Due to the designation of Bramshill as a site of high conservation value, we are required to issue permits for those wishing to horse ride in the area. This is a legal requirement under our Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) agreed with Natural England and designed to help protect this special site.

We have recently taken on the management of these permits and have issued 250 to horse riders. This is the maximum number of permits we are able to issue to comply with the HRA and unfortunately will not be able to accommodate further requests for this year.

There are a range of other forests that horse riders can visit and the majority of these do not require permits. For more information on where to ride in the nation’s forests and further information please visit https://www.forestryengland.uk/activities/horse-riding

Horse box parking will continue to be available at Bramshill Car Park.
