Volunteering at Hamsterley
Be part of Hamsterley's great volunteer team
Join your local team of volunteers to learn new skills, meet new people, make new friends and enhance your local forest for the benefit of nature and the community.
Hamsterley’s volunteer offer has two sessions a month:
- Ranger volunteers on the first Thursday of the month (10am – 3pm)
- Trailbuilding volunteers with the Hamsterley Trailblazers on the third Saturday of the month (10am – 3pm)
No experience is necessary for either role. Tools, equipment and PPE are provided, however volunteers are encouraged to wear their own suitable study footwear if they have them.
Our Ranger volunteers carry out practical maintenance tasks such as digging in posts, litter picking, pruning and other repairs. They work alongside our Rangers in the forest. Volunteers require a moderate level of fitness due to the nature of the tasks.
Our Trailbuilding volunteers work with our Rangers and the Hamsterley Trailblazers to repair, maintain and build new MTB trails in the forest. Volunteers require a good level of fitness due to the physical nature of the tasks.
Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to have an adult accompanying them throughout the session.
