Survival connections
Humans have an innate need to connect with others that comes from the need to survive; we are most happy and healthy when we are connected to others. It turns out that trees aren’t all that dissimilar.
Trees connect to each other through their roots, dubbed the Wood Wide Web, and fungal networks in the ground. They nurture one another by sending messages and exchanging nutrients, helping one another to survive and thrive. Beech trees (Fagus sylvatica) are thought to share nutrients with their ‘offspring’ through their roots systems. Some tree species even release chemicals which ‘warn’ others of pests and predators.
Connect with someone today, say hello… you might just make their day!
