Custodians of the Future

Developing green skills to enhance employability and create custodians of the future

As the country’s largest land manager, we have ambitious plans to create new woodlands and deliver nature restoration at an unprecedented scale. We also need to have the right skills in the right place to care for these landscapes into the future. You could help fund our volunteer ‘Shadow Ranger’ employability programme – where 20 candidates join Forestry England across a year to shadow our expert teams with a view to gaining employment within the green sector following their 6-month placement.

You could help build the passionate, knowledgeable and diverse workforce we need to care for our green spaces to benefit nature, wildlife and communities into the future.

Support us from £150,000 per year

At Forestry England, our partnerships are scalable and the prices indicated here are the starting point required to get these projects running. With greater investment comes greater ambition, engagement, scale and impact for your business.

Your investment will fund a total of 20 Shadow Ranger placements across Central England to build employability and green skills where they are needed. Each participant is mentored and supported with CV-writing, interview skills and workplace confidence to create a clear, structured pathway from volunteering into a long-term career in the environmental sector.
