Discover the art of metalworking and create your own decorative metal flower in this unique hands-on workshop led by Mike Bennett of Must Forge, the artist behind Dalby Forest's iconic Flower sculpture.

Suitable for beginners, this practical workshop offers an introduction to traditional metal-forming techniques in a safe, supportive and creative environment. Using pre-cut metal components, participants will learn how to shape, texture and assemble individual elements to create a beautiful finished flower to take home. The workshop provides a special opportunity to connect with one of the forest's unique sculptures. Participants can visit the nearby Flower sculpture, located along the Ellerburn trail, and gain insight into the inspiration behind their own handcrafted creation. Taking place adjacent to Dalby Forest's exhibition space, the workshop also offers the chance to explore the wider arts programme and discover the current exhibition "The Forest Through Your Eyes" during your visit.

Whether you're looking to learn a new skill, enjoy a creative day out, or be inspired by art in the landscape, this workshop is a memorable opportunity to experience traditional craft techniques alongside a professional artist.

About the artist

Based in the heart of Yorkshire, Michael Bennett is a passionate metal sculptor whose journey into the art form began as a serendipitous discovery of its therapeutic benefits. Initially dabbling in metalwork as a hobby, Bennett soon realized that the rhythmic act of hammering metal was a balm for mental health and general wellbeing - despite the occasional burn.

As time passed, Bennett's skills in blacksmithing and welding flourished. This growing expertise allowed the artist to develop a distinctive style, blending traditional and contemporary metalworking techniques. He proudly identifies as a modern metalworker, dedicated to creating unique pieces that reflect both old-world craftsmanship and innovative methods.

Ethics play a crucial role in Bennett's work. Committed to sustainability, the artist primarily utilizes scrap metal, transforming discarded materials into stunning sculptures.

Through this blend of artistic vision, technical skill, and ethical commitment, Bennett continues to forge a path in the world of metal sculpture, creating works that are not only visually striking but also environmentally conscious.
