- Mildenhall Warren
This is your only opportunity in 2026 to step inside the remarkable Mildenhall Warren Lodge. This fortified flint tower has stood on the edge of the Breckland heath for over 600 years.
Built in the early 15th century, the lodge was home to the warrener: the man charged with protecting one of medieval England's most valuable commodities. Rabbits were farmed on this estate from as early as the 1280s, their meat and fur providing income right through to the early 20th century.
What to expect
Step through the door and into a world that has changed little since the Middle Ages. On the day you'll be able to explore the interior of the lodge, see replica warreners' smocks alongside original long staves, the tools of the trade for the men who worked this land, and learn more about the lives of the people who lived and worked here across the centuries.
A rare glimpse inside one of Suffolk's most unusual and enduring medieval buildings, this open day is not to be missed for history enthusiasts, curious locals, and visitors to the area alike.
