Grizedale Observatory & Planetarium
Explore the universe from the heart of the forest
Observatory
Join the team for an awe-inspiring evening of stargazing in the Lake District. Incredible stars, beautiful nebulae and distant galaxies are all accessible through their telescopes.
With the help of experienced and friendly astronomers you’ll spend the evening enjoying the incredible sights our universe has to offer.
Nestled in the Grizedale valley, the observatory enjoys dark skies unblemished by light pollution. If you’ve only ever seen the sky from a town or city you’ll be stunned by how the sky opens up as the sun sets.
In the winter, clusters, nebulae, and galaxies grace our skies, and in the summer the Milky Way arcs across the heavens.
Planetarium
This amazing experience is equipped with a state of the art Emerald projection system and a ceiling mounted dome to give you an awe-inspiring view of the sky and universe. With enough capacity for 20 guests at a time, your family can take a tour through the depths of space in warmth and comfort.
Planetarium events allow you to explore the universe with our team of friendly astronomers. You will be welcomed into the facility to meet the team before enjoying an incredible show in the state of the art planetarium, before ending the session with hands-on exploration of rocks from space.
Day or night, rain or shine, you can enjoy a HD journey of discovery in one of the full-length planetarium events or shorter movie showings. Book ahead with confidence or just walk up and book on the door (subject to availability).
