Come and play in Acorn Hideout in Silk Wood

A natural play area with wooden tree balance beams

Earlier this year, we asked our social media followers to help name Westonbirt’s newest play area in Silk Wood, and the response was fantastic. We received plenty of creative suggestions, making it no easy task to choose a favourite.

After careful deliberation, we shortlisted four names and put them to a public vote. With 47% of the vote, the clear winner was Acorn Hideout.

We're delighted to reveal that the winning name was suggested by Lewis Hibbard. We wanted a name that was fun, memorable and felt connected to Westonbirt, and Lewis's suggestion captured all of that perfectly.

We contacted Lewis, via his Mum Ffion, to share the news that he is the winner of our naming competition, and had a swift response:

“Lewis will be delighted to hear he is the winner!

We come to Westonbirt all of the time and we live very close by.

Our favourite thing is to bring our dogs Truffle and Spud for a run and have a good play at the “Acorn Hideout”! We honestly love Westonbirt so much and bring the dogs most weeks, all year round - sometimes every day. We watched Acorn Hideout being built in anticipation, at the start of the year. The day Lewis chose the name we had a quiet wander to Westonbirt and a play there, just us.”

We thank everyone who took part in our naming competition and especially Lewis for coming up with the winning name that ideally suits this new play area.

Keep an eye out in coming months for yet another new play area we will be building in Silk Wood! This will mark the final phase of introducing new natural play areas in Silk Wood at Westonbirt.

Thank you for the support and generosity of the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum members, funders, and donors for making the new play areas at Westonbirt possible.
