Japanese Kokedama Experience: Create a Living Woodland sculpture at Westonbirt Arboretum

Event details

Join Yuka from Margaret & Wolfe for a hands-on Japanese Kokedama experience, inspired by the Japanese ancient art of displaying plants in moss-covered soil balls.

During this relaxed seasonal workshop, you’ll create your own large Kokedama using a beautiful combination of seasonal evergreen and trailing woodland plants, moss and natural materials. Yuka will guide you through the process step by step, from preparing the planting medium and shaping your Kokedama to wrapping and finishing your living sculpture.

Kokedama is a simple and beautiful way to bring a little piece of the woodland into around your homes, or indoors, while connecting with the Japanese appreciation of nature, simplicity and seasonal change.

No previous experience is needed. Come along, get your hands in the soil and enjoy a peaceful morning of making at Westonbirt’s Learning Centre, followed by Japanese tea. (English tea is also available)

All materials and equipment will be provided, along with a bag to safely take your finished Kokedama home.

If you have a pair of garden gloves and snips or secateurs, please bring them along with you. There will be also some spares available to use on the day.

Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for hands-on crafting and gardening. The workshop is ideal for adults and limited to 12 participants.
