Free event for on Thu 6 - Sat 8 Aug

On Thursday 6 and Saturday 8 of August there will be other activities to take part in where we will explore the sounds of nature.

Friday 7 August only

Jason Singh will be joining us on Friday 7 of August to allow us to connect with the trees through their sound. He is a sound artist, nature beatboxer, producer, DJ, curator, facilitator, and performer. His life and work are deeply rooted in the art of listening. Jason will be running two types of activity on the day.

Tree music sessions

One hour session walking with groups around the site to explore particular trees in the collection. During the walk participants are encouraged to “tune into” their environment through an open process of “listening” this includes listening to changes within their bodies, becoming conscious of their breathing as well as the ever changing conditions in the environment. This is to foster a deeper connection both internally and externally.  This exercise is explored through a musical lens and aims to see nature as an ongoing ever evolving composition of frequency (light, smell, sound, temperature) and is rooted in Indian music and spirituality.

Using biosensors Jason would then enter a listening session of the music generated live by the tree.

Nature Beatboxing

One hour interaction session exploring, voice and nature.  Visitors will learn new skills in recreating the sounds of nature (water, wind, birdsong, rhythms and melodies) using their voices and movement. No previous experience is necessary. Age groups are for 5 years and upwards.

Pre book to avoid disappointment on the day. Activities will run at allocated timeslots throughout the day, with sessions suitable for different aged children.
