A closer look at connection
All around you are incredible ‘mini’ ecosystems; we are all connected. But sometimes we can only appreciate this after we’ve looked more closely...
Take the oaks (Quercus robur) around you, and the ferns that call them their home; it’s a mutually beneficial relationship where the ferns use the tree to get up high and reach light, and in turn break down leaf matter for the tree to reabsorb nutrients. The oaks also support other organisms like mosses, lichens and insects... and of course, humans. Without trees producing oxygen humanity wouldn’t survive; it’s simple, but vital.
Find another ‘mini’ ecosystem amongst the trees.
