Caring for the nation's forests

Everything we are trying to achieve depends on healthy forests: without them, we have nothing.
Baroness Young, Forestry England Chair

England’s forests face serious threats. Not only is climate change intensifying storms, drought and wildfires, but new pests and diseases are putting trees under growing pressure too.

At the same time, forests have never mattered more – for wildlife, people’s wellbeing, climate resilience and as a sustainable source of homegrown timber.

Growing the future to 2031 sets out how we will act with urgency, ambition and partnership to secure forests that are resilient, nature‑rich and welcoming to all – for people today, and for generations to come.
