
We’re trialling overnight stays for self-contained campervans and motorhomes. This 60-day event runs from 16 July to 14 September 2026.
Please note:
- vehicles may stay in specified car parks at the following locations only: Bedgebury Pinetum, Cardinham Woods, Gisburn Forest, High Lodge, Jeskyns Community Woodland, Wendover Woods and Kielder Forest. Overnight stays are not permitted in any other Forestry England car parks.
- Pre-booking is required at all locations except Kielder Forest
- Bookings must be made in advance, by 12:00 midday the day before arrival.
- £16 per 24-hour period for non-members at bookable locations.
- £14 per 24-hour period for Forestry England members at bookable locations.
- £15 per 24-hour period at Kielder Forest, for all vehicles.
- Arrival from 12:00 noon, leave before 11:30am on day of departure, maximum stay 48 hours, no return within 48 hours.
- Grey water, toilet waste and rubbish must be removed from site.
- No stoves, fires or BBQs.
Campervan and motorhome overnight stays regulations
- Only fully self-contained motorhomes and campervans are permitted.
- Maximum vehicle length 7.5 metres (6.5 metres at Cardinham Woods).
- Maximum vehicle weight 5 tonnes (3.5 tonnes at Cardinham Woods).
- Caravans, trailers, tents including roof top tents, and buses are not permitted.
- A maximum stay of 48 hours per visit.
- No return visits within 48 hours of departure.
- We reserve the right to cancel any bookings that do not comply.
- Pre-booked vehicles only.
- Make sure the vehicle registration on your booking is correct. If your registration is incorrect, a Parking Charge Notice may be issued.
- You can arrive from midday and must leave the designated campervan bay by 11:30am next day. You are welcome to move to a standard parking space if you arrive early, or for the rest of your departure day. You may may exit and re-enter the venue during the booked period.
- Vehicles must be parked within the designated campervan area of the car park.
- Parking must be in an organised manner to allow other visitors to use the car park.
- Do not position your vehicle in a way that prevents other vehicles from parking.
- Do not block access roads, gates, barriers, tracks, or infrastructure.
- For fire safety reasons, do not park directly next to another camper vehicle overnight - allow a minimum distance of 6 metres between vehicles.
- This is an off-grid site for fully self-contained vehicles only.
- There are no facilities for grey water, toilet waste, or rubbish disposal.
- Remove all waste including toilet waste, grey water, litter, and dog waste.
- Absolutely no waste disposal of any kind is permitted on or near the site, including in woodland, vegetation, or public bins.
- No open fires, fire pits, stoves or BBQs (including disposable BBQs).
- Cooking is permitted only using internal appliances inside your vehicle.
- Members benefit from a discounted overnight rate of £14 at Bedgebury Pinetum, Cardinham Woods, Gisburn Forest, High Lodge, Jeskyns Community Woodland and Wendover Woods.
- Members must book in advance at the above locations.
- Members will need to submit their membership number when booking.
- Members do not benefit from a discounted overnight rate at Kielder Forest, where price for all vehicles is £15 per night.
- Free overnight stays are not permitted within the membership terms and conditions.
- Overnight stopovers only.
- No camping setup is to be used or erected outside your vehicle.
- Awnings, gazebos, hammocks, furniture, or other external equipment are not permitted.
- Quiet hours are in place between 10pm and 7am. Please be respectful of other visitors and keep noise to a minimum.
- No generators or amplified music.
- All visitors must follow the Forestry England forest code.
- Please help protect our exceptional night skies by keeping lighting to an absolute minimum, avoiding the use of bright external lights, and switching off lights when not needed.
- Reducing light pollution enhances your experience and that of others.
- Keep dogs close by and in sight at all times.
- Follow the Forestry England dog code.
- Please be aware that our forests are surrounded by working land and wildlife.
- Pick up and remove all dog waste from site.
- Visitors use the site at their own risk.
- In an emergency, contact the emergency services on 999 or 112.
- Follow any weather warnings or fire risk notices displayed on site.
- On discovering a vehicle fire: alert occupants of nearby vehicles and contact the Fire Service by calling 999 or 112.
- Visitors must comply with any emergency site closure instructions, made at Forestry England’s absolute discretion, which may include immediate termination of a campervan stopover booking.
- Site users agree not to do, or cause, any act or thing on the site which may be or become a nuisance or inconvenience or cause damage or annoyance to Forestry England or other users of the site, or to the owners or occupiers of adjoining neighbouring premises and to abide by the Forestry Commission Byelaws, except as expressly authorised by these rules and regulations.
- Forestry England staff may carry out site checks.
- Any breach of these rules and regulations may result in you being asked to leave the site.
- These rules and regulations do not supersede the car parking or Forestry England membership terms and conditions as displayed on site, except where expressly stated by these rules and regulations.

- A post stay survey will be sent to the email address provided. You are under no obligation to complete the survey but doing so will help in planning future activities.
