Horse riding at Hemsted Forest

Horse riding at Hemsted Forest

Equestrians may ride off the bridleway on gravel tracks only throughout Hemsted Forest — no permit is required from Forestry England or TROT.

De-boxing (Horsebox Parking)

We are currently reviewing how to manage de-boxing access, as it involves bringing vehicles beyond forest barriers. Due to a high volume of interest, we have temporarily paused all applications while we put a new system in place. Updates will be posted here when applications reopen.

Riders with an Expired TROT Permit

If you previously held a TROT permit for Hemsted Forest you may continue to use the de-boxing facility for now. Please ensure your old TROT permit is clearly displayed in your vehicle when parked onsite. There is no need to wear a TROT hatband while riding.

New Riders

We are not currently accepting new applications for access to the de-boxing area. Please check back here for updates once applications reopen.

For details on our facilities, opening times and contact information, please see our visitor information.
