Black Pool loop at Mortimer Forest

A 1.5 mile trail taking in the Haye Park Wood area of the forest starting from Black Pool Car Park.

Along the trail, discover archaeological features including quarries, charcoal burning platforms, saw pits, holloways (ancient sunken cart tracks), a deer park pale and a medieval farmstead. All reminders that the woods were once a lot busier than they are today.

Over the coming decades this area will be reverted to a woodland of mixed native trees as part of our commitment to biological diversity and cultural heritage.

This is a moderate walk with exposed roots and rocks. Parts of the trail will be muddy after wet weather so good footwear is essential.
