Our Window on Westonbirt volunteers have explored the arboretum this week to let you know what's looking its best. Keep an eye out for the following seasonal highlights - they're not to be missed! You can also use our Arboretum Explorer to discover more tree locations around the arboretum.
Hydrangea
The large and striking hydrangea Hydrangea heteromalla Bretschneideri Group is one of the earliest to flower and will catch your eye along Main Drive with its profusion of white flowers.
Tulip tree
Across from the restaurant look out for the spectacular Tulip tree (Liriodendron). It has tulip-shaped yellow flowers marked with orange inside. There are also two examples on Mitchell Drive.
Chinese fringe tree
A newer planting at the junction of Broad Drive and Barn Walk is the Chinese fringe tree (Chionanthus retusus). It has clusters of fragrant snow-white fringed flowers hence its common name. The flowers are followed by bluish-black berries much to the delight of the birds.
