Window on Westonbirt Arboretum

Body

Our Window on Westonbirt volunteers have explored the arboretum this week to let you know what's looking its best. Keep an eye out for the following seasonal highlights - they're not to be missed! You can also use our Arboretum Explorer to discover more tree locations around the arboretum.

Acer 'Dissectum'

The maples continue to put on a magnificent display in both Maple Loop and Acer Glade but have a look on both Main Drive and Mitchell Drive in the Old Arboretum for Acer 'Dissectum'.  Its finely cut foliage gives a feathery appearance and at this time of year, a rich orangey-red colour.

Rhaphithamnus spinosus

While on Mitchell Drive take a step or two off the path to find Prickly myrtle, (Rhaphithamnus spinosus) covered in masses of small blue-purple berries which look striking against the dark green leaves.

Maidenhair tree

The Maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba) was introduced into Britain in the 1750s and given its name because of its fan-shaped leaves, similar to those of the Maidenhair fern. The leaves glow gold in autumn.  You'll find examples on Broad and Willesley Drives in Silk Wood.
