East Hill Strips, Chineway Hill, East Devon
By Car

From Honiton, head south along A375 (Sidmouth Road). Turn right at Hare and Hounds pub at Putts Corner. Follow Crowpitts Covert for approx. 1.6km and turn left on to East Hill Strips. Follow the forest road for approx. 1km and there is a car park on the right, or a layby parking area on the left, facing the access gate to Core Copse.

From Ottery St Mary, head east towards Chineway Hill along Chineway Road. On reaching the summit of the hill turn right and follow the forest road for approx. 1km. There is a car park on the right, or a layby parking area on the left, facing the access gate to Core Copse.

Sitting within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Core Copse at East Hill offers a variety of breath-taking views.

This wonderful woodland has something for everyone with veteran trees, beautiful displays of bluebells and other wildflowers, and an array of historical monuments dating from prehistory to the Napoleonic Wars.

Enjoy a tasty treat in the forest, just bring along good food and company!

There are many tracks and walkways to explore within the beautiful woodland. The flat circular trail offers an accessible track for most of the route, which is suitable for prams and capable mobility vehicles in drier months.

West of Exeter, Chalet provides a range of forest paths for you to explore, through gorse and heath as well as conifers and broad-leaved trees. The area is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the diversity of plant and animal life here. Bring your binoculars and see what you can spot, maybe you'll catch a glimpse of the elusive nightjar.
