School visits to Hilltown at Eggesford

Discover Hilltown at Eggesford Forest with your class

Hilltown is part of Eggesford Forest, a stunning collection of mixed woodlands in central Devon and home to the very first trees ever planted by the Forestry Commission. Hilltown offers the perfect environment to inspire and excite learners of all ages and abilities.

A classroom with no walls

The living, breathing forest is a versatile learning space, with room to think and space to explore. Learning in a forest is also a practical way to immerse your class in a range of subjects. Spark students' imagination by delivering a lesson on any topic, using the setting as inspiration.

Plan sensory exploration or wildlife and habitat spotting with younger children. Older children can see how ecosystems work, undertake field studies or explore the science behind the tree lifecycle.

Discover sustainable forest management in action

We grow, shape and care for forests, managing landscapes for people, wildlife and timber production. At Cardinham, you'll see what sustainable forest management is, and why it's so important, through hands-on activities.

Self-guided visits

Our free downloadable resources and lesson plans are available to help you plan.

Pre-booking essential

All visits must be booked in advance so that we can help you make the most of your trip. Please contact the Forestry England learning team at least four weeks before you plan to visit, and they'll get back to you with everything you need to do.
