Hilltown at Eggesford

Visitor information

Beautiful walking and a slice of history in mid Devon

Hilltown - often referred to as Eggesford - is one of the three main woodlands that make up Eggesford Forest close to the mid-Devon town of Chulmleigh.

This peaceful mixed woodland offers scenic, unwaymarked walking and a glimpse into the history of the Forestry Commission. Don't miss the Queen's Stone, unveiled by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1956 to mark the millionth acre of trees planted by the Forestry Commission since its creation in 1919.
