This is an optional technical loop accessed from the red-grade Ridge Ride Trail that is more demanding than the previous sections of the Ridge Ride Trail. Expect roots, rocks, berms, drops and a step down.

This is the most strenuous and technically challenging waymarked trail in Hamsterley forest. It sports steep technical climbs, smooth contouring single track and some superb rooty descents.

Take in the 1,900 ft summit of Deadwater Fell which straddles the border and gives sensational 360° views from coast to coast before plummeting from the peak back down to Kielder Castle on specially constructed single track, packed full of features.

The trail starts at Kielder Castle and heads up the Forest Drive to the first of several sections of sweeping single track as it turns along Kielder Burn and climbs into the forest. The trail finishes at the Lakeside Way where you can visit Sylvan Capitalis 'Forest Head'.

These severe, challenging and extremely difficult features are found scattered throughout High Lodge.  You will need to be highly skilled and have a quality off-road mountain bike that is set up for the purpose.  Expect large and unavoidable features and make sure you take a look before you ride.

The shortest of our waymarked cycle trails, but there are still small hills involved so be warned!  The trail takes you past Goosey Foot and Juniper Tarns, two of our twenty or so man-made tarns.

The Powerline is a fast technical red grade trail that travels from the main car park down beneath the path of the high voltage powerline towards the River Derwent.

This trail was built in partnership with the Northeast Freeride Association (NEFA).

This is a route with off-road sections and flowing berms, starting in Low Dalby, via Snever Dale and Flax Dale, with a very steep and challenging descent with zigzags and berms towards the end. All the while, you will be surrounded by the forest and taking in the beautiful Jubilee Plantation.

Spicers is one of our two blue-graded cycle trails. Spicers is a great confidence builder for off-road cycling skills for those who have mastered the basics. Spicers introduces a combination of surfaces with some narrow sections and gentle gradients. There is a short 'two-way traffic' section near the beginning of the trail.

If this is your first time to Hamsterley Forest, or you are stepping up a notch from beginners cycling, this is the perfect trail to get to grips with off-road cycling at a safe and leisurely pace.  You will be riding some purpose built single track trail and much wider forest roads.

Hamsterley has a range of cycle trails catering for most skill levels, making it the perfect place for everyone to have an adventure off-road cycling.

Having mastered our shorter trails, this five mile off-road route takes you around the whole site through a mixture of trees and woods. 

You can improve your skills and fitness levels on this more technical trail.

Starting on the Lakeside Way, the trail heads up to the top of Purdom Pike at over 1000 feet where you will be greeted by quite simply breath-taking views of the North Tyne Valley and beyond.

To help get you across the boggy terrain of Purdom Pike is a 1000 yards of timber 'fly-over', the longest of its kind in England.

The 4km family short cycle trail follows a shorter loop around the forest on shared use forest road. It is ideal for young children and less experienced cyclists although basic off-road riding skills are required.

However, tiny riders may need a little extra help in places as some of the trail is gravelly and slightly hilly.
