Welcome to Alice Holt Forest

Alice Holt has something for everyone! Whether you are looking for an exciting day out, a treetop adventure, a bike ride or a tranquil walk through the forest with friends and family, we know you will love your visit. We have lots of different trails and exciting play areas for you to discover, as well as our popular Gruffalo character sculptures - including our new Gruffalo sculpture that's arrived.

For our exciting activities and cycle hire, visit our Activity Centre with health and fitness activities. Bring your running gear and enjoy a peaceful run along our beautiful trails. If you fancy a thrilling adventure, try one of our Go Ape Tree-Top adventures – pre booking essential.

Love to cycle? We've got you covered with our Cycle Trails and Cycle hire. Bring your bike and explore the forest with your friends, or use our cycle hire and try our trails without even needing to bring a bike with you. If you need a bit of a boost, our electric bikes will get you further into the forest without your legs needing to do all the work.

If you're here with the kids, check out our popular play areas, structures and trails, perfect for all the family. More family fun includes our unique Gruffalo Sculptures, see who you can find in the deep, dark woods, including our brand new Gruffalo!

When you're feeling peckish or in need of some refreshment to help warm you up after your adventures, visit our lovely Cafe for some tasty treats. They have a wide variety of options and can cater for all dietary requirements. Our toilets can be found next to the Cafe and the Visitor Centre.

If peace and quiet is what you're after, then try our Walking trails and Wellbeing trail, for some tranquility in our beautiful forest.

 

Know before you go

  • Please keep highways and gateways clear and leave plenty of room for other road users to pass safely. If the car park is full or too busy please be prepared to turn around and come another day.
  • We urge people to leave nothing behind that could harm the beauty of the forest, please take your litter home and dispose of it there, not forgetting to recycle what you can of course!
  • Barbecues are not permitted in any part of our forest. No portable barbecues, disposable barbecues, fires or camp stoves are allowed at Alice Holt Forest.
  • We are cashless and only accept credit / debit cards and Apple / Google Pay (with the exception of the Cafe where you can use cash).

Alice Holt offers a wonderful opportunity for natural cycling. Check out our cycling trails and enjoy the fantastic scenery by bike, you will see ancient mighty oaks as well as wildflower rich open spaces during your cycle. Our cycle trails are open for you to enjoy with your own bikes or why not try our bikes that are available to hire!

Cycle Hire at Alice Holt Forest

Our bike hire is open at weekends, school holidays and public holidays between 9.30am and 5.00pm with the last bike hire at 4.00pm. At other times we can open for pre-booked groups. Opening hours may be reduced subject to adverse weather, in which case updates will be posted on our Facebook page. Please contact us on 01252 940915 for further details.

We are delighted to offer electric bikes, touring bikes and 24” bikes for 8-11 year olds, as well as trailers, tag alongs and baby seats for your little ones. Half day and full day rides can be pre-booked here, while hourly rentals work on a “walk-in” basis - just come along and speak to our friendly team at the Activity Centre.

Inclusive Cycling at Alice Holt Forest

The Alice Holt inclusive cycling fleet has a wide range of bikes to make cycling accessible to everyone, and the volunteers will help you choose the right bike to match your circumstances and show you how to ride and where to go in the forest.

Sessions are held every Thursday morning from 9.30am to 12.30pm and are open and on a first come first served basis.

Breeze into the Forest

British Cycling have teamed up with us to offer free, women-only group cycle rides for all abilities in the nation’s forests. 

Every group ride is led by a qualified Breeze into the Forest Champion, who will organise everything and make sure everyone stays safe.

Family cycling trail at Alice Holt Forest

The Family Cycle Trail is the perfect way for the whole family to see the wider forest. 

 

 

From gentle group walks to cardio training, discover a wide range of instructor led fitness and wellbeing classes at Alice Holt. 

Enjoy a tasty treat in the forest at one of our beautiful barbecue stands, just bring along good food and company!

Alice Holt has three barbecue hearths available for you to book. Our barbecues are suitable for up to 30 people and comes with its own picnic table. There’s also space for you to bring your own gazebo, up to 3x3m in size. Disposable and portable barbecues are not allowed.

Don't forget to bring your own charcoal and tools!

Explore our many waymarked trails or smaller paths that criss-cross Alice Holt Forest. The woods are ideal for just about everyone to enjoy some exercise, from a gentle family walk to a good long invigorating stroll.
