Forestry England and Forestry and Land Scotland have committed to a new direction for Camping in The Forest (CiTF) by acquiring the business from The Camping and Caravanning Club.

Gather your friends and family, snuggle up in your sleeping bag and take in the beautiful night sky with a stay at one of our campsites. 

With 13 locations across England, Forestry England Camping sites provide the perfect location for an immersive holiday. Surrounded by the forest, you will have direct access to miles of paths, unique experiences and an endless adventure.

Overnight Bushcraft

An overnight bushcraft camp offers you the chance to really get away from it all. Build your own shelters to sleep in, cook your food over the campfire and learn bushcraft skills.

Found on the edge of Middlesbrough, Gribdale Gate car park provides a great starting point for a network of paths and trails. 

Follow the long-distance Cleveland Way footpath and adventure into Coate Moor, a forest haven just waiting to be explored. If you want to venture further afield, the trail runs up to the historic Captain Cook's monument. The steep climbs are definitely worth it for the unparalleled views across the Cleveland Hills!

No overnight camping is permitted.

What to expect 

Drop your children off with us at Bedgebury Pinetum for an adventurous day of den building, woodland crafts, socialising, having fun and so much more.

The campsite is situated 1.5 miles south of the Grizedale Visitor Centre. A journey of four miles north takes you to the village of Hawkshead and a further 5 miles to Ambleside. Travelling south takes you to the local market town of Ulverston.

Discover the ancient hill fort, spot birds of prey and enjoy a snack from the log cabin cafe.

There are waymarked trails linking to the River Wye and over the famous Biblins Bridge, or a choice of circular walks into the forest itself. There is also a cycling trail linking Forest Holidays and Camping in the Forest site at Bracelands to Symonds Yat Rock.

Running

This route is on a flat, wide forest road and is ideal for those getting started. You will pass our viewpoint looking out on to Halton Camp and Weston Turnville Reservoir, run 500m and turn around to complete 1k.

Walking trails and routes

Walking in the forest is the perfect way to get some fresh air and explore some of the area's most beautiful landscapes.

The easy access route has interpretation boards explaining the history of the Desert Rats and their time in this area during 1944. From this walk it is possible to locate the positions of some of the buildings from the army camp.

Running

The 7.5km route builds on from the 5km, with additional climbs and more challenging terrain underfoot to really test runners.

You'll head further into the forest, surrounded by hundreds of Corsican and Scots pine trees, which smell beautiful in the summer months.

Look and listen for crossbills whose distinctive call is often heard in this area. The route also passes an old pistol range, as the Chase has a military history as a former training camp.

Sherwood Pines

Our red group is aimed at having fun on bikes & developing riders’ technical skills. We’ll use our ramps and equipment to asses riders’ existing skills & develop them further. Before heading out onto the trails (red) and working on some of the technical sections. We’ll finally move onto the dirt jumps and bike park trails to develop some advanced techniques and have more fun.

Sherwood Pines

Our Blue session is all about having fun on bikes. We’ll start off on a wide grassy area using our ramps and pieces of equipment to assess and build fundamental techniques. Riders will then progress out onto the trails. Starting with the pump track riders will begin to apply their skills to real world settings, we’ll move out onto the new sections of the Sherwood pines blue trail, where riders will experience steeper downhills, and sweeping berm turns.

Breath-taking views, stunning artwork and endless forest trails, come and discover all that Grizedale has to offer!

Explore the forest on two wheels, foot or horse back and keep your eyes peeled along the way for our unique sculptures which are dotted throughout the forest. For more of a challenge, test your nerve and swing among the trees on one of our Go Ape courses.

Located south of Marlborough, Savernake Forest is rich in history and has lots to explore. It is a Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) as well as a registered important historic park, making it the perfect forest for an exciting and educational day out.

Creech Wood

Discover Creech Woods in the Run-up to D-Day 1944

Creech Woods contained a major military camp hosting about 4000 troops prior to the Allied invasion of Europe in June 1944. Join members of Project 71 to see what remains of the assembly camps, otherwise known as marshalling areas A11 and A12, and what life was like for those stationed here in the run-up to an event that changed world history.

Wild Learning offer forest adventure camps in the school holidays for children aged five and above. All staff are Enhanced DBS-checked and Site Leaders have Forest School L3 qualifications or equivalent.

Wenchford is a beautiful spot nestled deep within the forest with plenty of picnic tables and an easy access path.

Blackpool Brook trickles through the site under the dappled shade of the large oak trees. The paddling area is the perfect place to cool down in the hot summer months.

This gently sloping linear track links Symonds Yat Rock and the historic viewpoint, with the Forest Holidays site at Christchurch and the nearby

Come and explore one of the Midland’s most well-known forests! With activity trails, play areas, bike hire, wild running and mountain biking trails, Sherwood Pines will set the scene for a great day out for all.

Bushcraft for Families Sherwood Pines

Celebrate your birthday with a bushcraft party in Sherwood Pines.

Your adventure starts with a navigation challenge. Use maps and work as a team to find your way to the bushcraft camp hidden deep in the forest.

Throughout the day you will build survival shelters using natural woodland materials, light fires using a range of tinders and toast marshmallows on the campfire.

Picnics and barbecues

Enjoy a tasty treat in the forest at one of our beautiful barbecue stands, just bring along good food and company!

Alice Holt has three barbecue hearths available for you to book. Our barbecues are suitable for up to 30 people and comes with its own picnic table. There’s also space for you to bring your own gazebo, up to 3x3m in size. Disposable and portable barbecues are not allowed.

Don't forget to bring your own charcoal and tools!

Wendover Woods

Multi- Activity Holiday Camps are perfect for children who like to be active and on the move without playing traditional sports. Introduce them to new and exciting activities, and create a fun-filled experience.  

Activities include: fencing, archery and orienteering. 

Explore the forest in a different way. 

 

Sherwood Bushcraft School and youth groups

Our bushcraft camp provides a unique learning environment and is ideal for engaging children of all levels and behaviours. Our activities are designed to increase confidence, promote team working and help foster a love of the outdoors.

We have over ten years’ experience of working with young people with challenging behaviours and special needs. We will work with you to plan a day to suit your learners.

Barbecue hire is £70 per day.

Wendover Woods has three barbecues available for hire. The barbecues are available to use all day, from 11am until one hour before site closure, and are bookable up to 30 days in advance.
